Summer Wrap-Up 2024

This summer was a busy one! (Aren’t they all??) I got to hang with one of my best buddies 4 days a week! We went to the beach with friends several times and generally had an awesome summer.

Timber Days kicked off the season, with the Cook farmers’ market opening the Saturday after, and then Cook flooded. I can’t even write much about it yet but there was a flash flood in June that kicked our community in the throat. While there is some new construction happening, and there is money out there for flood relief, the process will be slower than anyone wants.

While the beginning of summer was wet, the rest has been tending toward drought. Garden-wise I’ve never been happier. I had two giant feral sunflowers this year in the fenced veggie garden and I literally spent hours under them this year. One stalk/trunk is bigger than my wrist. I have had smaller stalks than the branches on this one. I’ve been trying all summer to capture the scale but I HATE being photographed and so does Mr. Wonderful. I don’t post photos of the grandspawns’ faces either, which rules out using people.

My tomatoes had a rough start with no sun, but have really come around and I’m making salsa again for the shows this fall and winter. I don’t think I’ve ever had them on the plants this late into the season.

The milkweed was beautiful, early, and plentiful, but we saw four caterpillars and maybe four adult Monarchs this summer. We did raise one in an enclosure, but now experts are saying that rearing them in captivity doesn’t help- and may actually hurt- the species so I won’t be building a butterfly house next year. Instead we will be concentrating again on planting habitat for the caterpillars and adults. Maybe a greenhouse one of these years. I have the windows!

By far the most exciting news business-wise is that I got a shout out from a very nice lady in ND about my Kamala bracelets and my Etsy shop BLEW. UP. It was so frigging cool! People from all over the country are using my bracelets to start conversations and inspire themselves and others. Some of the popular words are: MYODB, Not Going Back, Hope and Ope, Do Something, Cat Ladies For Kamala and Childless Cat Lady. I’ve been using stones like amethyst, malachite, hematite, turquoise, etc and I’m pretty proud of them. Also, I’m donating some of the money raised to the campaign so go check it out! 🙂

Ok, Now it’s time to start decorating for Halloweeeeeeeeeennnnnnnn!!!!!!!
